Course Description We are living through incredible times. No one could have suspected that we would be facing a global pandemic that virtually shut down life as we know it. All too many businesses remain closed or are opening to a fraction of capacity. Many people remain out of work or working part-time. But what can you do if a business entity or person/consumer owes you money? Such receivables could wreak havoc on your own business and its future viability. Being the managing partner of a small law firm, and working with numerous small and mid-size businesses in the field of collections and contracts, I see the issues facing the business community and how likely outstanding receivables will remain an issue and what can be done during this brave new world we are living in. In order to discuss collections during the present time, this course will provide a review of the differences between commercial and consumer collections and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Then we will examine how companies and collections can comply with the applicable laws in the current context to limit receivables and maximize collections.
